DROP (Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform) is a free, state service that lets Californians request that data brokers delete their personal information and stop selling it.
Data brokers collect and sell information such as phone numbers, email addresses, search history, and other personal details, often fueling spam calls, scams, and fraud.
California’s free Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) gives residents the ability to delete their personal data and opt out of its sale.
Why Use DROP?
- Reduce spam calls, texts, and emails
- Limit how your personal information is sold online
- Lower your risk of identity theft, fraud, and impersonation
- Gain more control over your digital footprint
How It Works
Using DROP is simple and secure:
- Verify you're a California resident using the State's secure system
- Create a profile and choose how much information to provide
- Submit one request that reaches more than 500 registered data brokers
Starting August 1, 2026, data brokers are required by law to begin deleting requested data and must continue checking for new requests every 45 days.
Your Privacy Comes First
- DROP is free and operated by the California Privacy Protection Agency
- Your information is only used to process your request
- It is never sold or shared
- You do not need to create a state account
- Parents and caregivers can submit requests for children or elderly family members
